Generating a site
Every site is generated from a brief you fill in. Go to Generate a site from the dashboard or the navigation bar.
The brief
Business name
Your trading name exactly as you want it to appear on the site.
Industry
Choose the closest category. This drives the section layout, copy style, and image direction WebBuilder uses.
Services
A comma-separated list of what you offer. Be specific — "boiler installation, power flushing, leak detection" is better than "plumbing services".
Tone
The feeling you want the copy to project: professional, friendly, bold, premium, approachable, or technical.
Description
One to three sentences. Include what makes you different, who you serve, and where you're based. The more specific, the better the output.
What happens during generation
WebBuilder runs five stages, shown in the progress bar:
- 1Research — AI analyses industry patterns and competitive context for your category.
- 2SiteSpec — A structured specification is built from your brief — sections, content hierarchy, design intent.
- 3Design — Colour palette and typography are selected based on your tone and industry.
- 4Generation — HTML is rendered from the spec. Standard sections use the deterministic renderer for speed and consistency; custom sections use AI generation.
- 5Quality check — The output is scored across copy, structure, imagery, and SEO readiness. Results shown alongside the preview.
Total time: 60–90 seconds.
Multi-page output
Every generated site includes separate HTML pages for Home, About, Services, and Contact. Navigation links in the header and footer connect them. All pages are deployed together when you publish.
Sites also include privacy.html and terms.html — placeholder legal pages pre-populated with GDPR-structured content and your business details. Footer links point to them automatically. Replace them with your own copy from the dashboard (Pro/Agency) or by editing the text directly in the browser.
AI-generated images
Pro and Agency tiers generate professional images via AI — a hero image and gallery images created specifically for your business. Images are stored permanently on Cloudflare R2 and reused across regenerations so you don't pay to regenerate them unnecessarily. Free and Starter tiers use CSS gradient placeholders instead.
Sites we like (reference URLs)
In the brief form, you can add up to three URLs of websites whose design you admire. WebBuilder fetches each URL before generation, extracts colour values, font choices, and layout signals, and feeds them into the design stage as directional inputs.
Reference URLs influence the aesthetic — not the copy or structure. They work best when the sites you reference are in a similar industry or have a tone you want to match. The field is labelled Sites we like in the brief form.
Iterating
Section regeneration
If a section isn't right, rate it with a thumbs down in the preview. WebBuilder regenerates that section with a revised brief — the rest of the site is unchanged. You can regenerate the same section multiple times.
Section regeneration counts toward your monthly generation limit on Free and Starter tiers. Pro and Agency tiers have unlimited generations.
Wishlist prompts
Use the wishlist input to describe a feeling or direction, not a specific change. Examples that work well:
- →"Make it feel more premium"
- →"Tone it down — less salesy, more informative"
- →"Make it feel more like a boutique studio"
- →"More confident, less corporate"
Wishlist prompts mutate the SiteSpec — colour, typography, and copy direction — without changing your business information.
Style swap
The style swap applies a different colour palette and font pairing based on a tone selection. It runs in under 2 seconds with no AI call — the colours and fonts are swapped directly in the rendered HTML.
In-browser text editing
Any saved project can be edited directly in the browser — click to change copy, phone numbers, addresses, or any text without regenerating the whole site.
- From My Sites, click Continue editing on a project to load it into the generator.
- Click the Edit Mode toggle in the toolbar above the preview — it turns indigo when active.
- Click on any text in the preview — a cursor appears and the text becomes editable.
- The Save changes button activates as soon as you make a change.
- Click Save changes — a new version is created and, if the site is published, the live site updates automatically.
Available on Starter, Pro, and Agency tiers for projects loaded from My Sites. Edit Mode is disabled on freshly generated sites until they are saved and opened from the dashboard.
Field editor panel
The field editor gives you structured access to every text field in a section — headlines, subheadings, body copy, button labels — without clicking directly into the preview.
- From My Sites, click Continue editing on a project to load it into the generator.
- In the right-hand Sections panel, find the section you want to edit — each row has a small grid-lines icon on the right.
- Click the grid-lines icon — the field editor slides in from the right, listing every editable field by label.
- Type in any field — changes appear in the live preview instantly as you type.
- Click Save changes in the panel footer — a new version is created and, if published, the live site updates automatically.
- Click × in the panel header to close, or click another section's icon to switch sections.
Available on Starter, Pro, and Agency tiers for projects loaded from My Sites. On a freshly generated site the Save button reads "Open from My Sites to enable saving" — save the project first, then re-open via Continue editing.
Replacing section images
When a section contains images, the field editor panel shows an Images section below the text fields — a thumbnail of each image with a dimension hint and a Replace image button.
- Open the field editor for the section containing the image you want to replace.
- Scroll to the Images section at the bottom of the panel — you will see a thumbnail and a hint showing the rendered size (e.g. "Best at 1200 × 600px").
- Click Replace image and select a file from your computer.
- The image is uploaded to Cloudflare R2 and swapped live in the preview — no page reload needed.
- Click Save changes to persist the new image. If the site is published, the live site updates automatically.
Accepted formats: PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF. Maximum 5 MB per image. The dimension hint shows the rendered size of the original image — uploading an image at or near those dimensions gives the best result. Images are stored permanently on Cloudflare R2 and survive all future regenerations and redeploys.
A/B variant generation
Agency tier generates two distinct visual directions from the same brief — a palette mood flip (dark ↔ light) plus a hero variant swap. Both are shown side by side in a picker. Select the stronger one; the other is kept until you explicitly dismiss it. You can switch back at any time before dismissal.
Design Rationale panel
After generating a site, click View Design Rationale in the preview toolbar to open a panel showing the AI's design decisions for that site.
Colour rationale
Why this palette — emotional tone, industry conventions, contrast logic.
Typography pairing
The font combination chosen and why it suits the tone and sector.
Mood statement
A one-sentence description of the design intent.
Conversion architecture
How the layout guides visitors toward the primary action.
Useful for explaining design decisions to clients without needing a design background. The panel is always available in the preview — no regeneration required to open it.
Ecommerce and payments
Pro and Agency tiers can configure payment and cart functionality from the Payment / Booking section at the bottom of the generate form. Two modes are available and can be used independently or together.
Stripe payment link or Gumroad embed
Enter a checkout URL — a Stripe Payment Link (buy.stripe.com/...) or a Gumroad product URL — and a button label (e.g. “Book Now”, “Buy Now”).
WebBuilder adds a “Ready to Book or Pay?” section to your site with a prominently styled button linking directly to your checkout. The hero and main CTA buttons also link to your checkout URL.
Your Stripe or Gumroad account handles the payment — WebBuilder only embeds the link. No API keys required; no PCI scope for M4siz Ltd.
Snipcart cart integration
Snipcart is a hosted shopping cart service. Enter your Snipcart public API key and add your products using the product builder:
Name
Product name — required. Used as the cart item label.
Price
Numeric price in your store currency.
Description
Short product description shown on the product card.
Stock
Optional. Enter a number to cap units available; leave blank for unlimited.
Image URL
Optional. Direct link to a product photo (JPEG, PNG, or WebP). Use any publicly accessible URL — your own CDN, Cloudflare R2, or an image hosting service.
WebBuilder generates:
- →A product catalog on shop.html with Add to Cart buttons for each product.
- →A shopping cart icon with item count badge in the navigation header.
- →Customers can add multiple items and proceed to checkout — payment is handled by your Stripe account via Snipcart.
Your Snipcart API key and Stripe account are yours — WebBuilder has no access to payments and no PCI scope. Obtain your public API key from the Snipcart dashboard after connecting your Stripe account there.
Getting your payment credentials — important
WebBuilder does not process payments and holds no payment credentials of its own. Every mode above embeds a link or key to an account that belongs to you (or your client). Before the ecommerce section will work on a live site, that external account must exist and be set up — WebBuilder cannot create or configure it on your behalf.
Stripe Payment Link
Sign in (or sign up) at dashboard.stripe.com → Payment links → Create payment link → set product name and price → copy the resulting URL (starts buy.stripe.com/...) into the Checkout URL field.
Gumroad
Sign in (or sign up) at gumroad.com → create and publish a product → copy the product page URL into the Checkout URL field.
Snipcart (cart + Stripe, via Snipcart)
Sign in (or sign up) at app.snipcart.com → Store setup → Payment → connect or create a Stripe account (Snipcart’s own Stripe Connect flow, separate from WebBuilder) → Store setup → API Keys → copy the public API key into the Snipcart field on the generate form.
Until these steps are done on the provider’s side, the button or cart renders on your site but checkout will not complete a real payment. Test mode keys (Stripe/Snipcart) are useful for confirming the flow works before switching to live keys.
Dashboard
The dashboard lists all your saved projects. Each card shows the business name, hosted URL (if published), and last-updated date.
- Continue editingLoad the project into the generator to preview, iterate, regenerate, or use in-browser edit mode.
- Download ZIPExport all pages as a portable ZIP archive. Available on all tiers.
- Import edited(Pro/Agency) Re-upload a ZIP or HTML file you have edited locally. Saves a new version and redeploys automatically if the project is hosted.
- Legal pages(Pro/Agency, published sites only) Replace the auto-generated Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions placeholders. Paste plain text or HTML — plain text is automatically formatted into headings and paragraphs. Add a blank line between sections for best results, or use the HTML export from your policy generator. Saves and redeploys automatically.
- Add demo banner / Demo banner: ON(Published sites only) Toggles a persistent sticky disclaimer banner on every page identifying the site as AI-generated. Once enabled (button turns indigo), the banner survives all future redeploys automatically. Click again to remove it.
- DeletePermanently removes the project and deprovisions the hosted subdomain. Cannot be undone.
The number of projects you can save is capped by tier (see Tiers at a glance). Free tier saves up to 3 projects permanently on {slug}.webbuilder.digital.
Hosting and publishing
When you click Publish, WebBuilder provisions an nginx virtual host on the shared hosting server and writes your site's HTML files to the webroot. Your site goes live at your-slug.webbuilder.digital within a few seconds.
Free tier — permanent hosting (up to 3 sites)
Free sites are permanently hosted on {slug}.webbuilder.digital — no expiry. A WebBuilder watermark is added to the footer. Upgrade to Starter+ to remove it. The Free tier supports up to 3 live sites; generating a 4th prompts an upgrade.
Starter, Pro, Agency — permanent hosting
Sites remain live for the lifetime of your subscription. Cancelling your subscription will eventually deprovision hosted sites — you'll receive notice before this happens.
Redeploying
After regenerating or editing a site, click Publish again to push the updated HTML to the live subdomain. The URL stays the same. Pre-Sprint-15 sites (single-page) should be redeployed to pick up multi-page support.
Publish to SpecifiedIT
In addition to *.webbuilder.digital, you can publish a site to *.specifiedit.com — a separate managed hosting platform. From the dashboard, click Publish to SpecifiedIT, choose a slug, and click Publish. The site goes live at your-slug.specifiedit.com within seconds. Re-publish at any time to push updated content. Suitable for showcase and demonstration sites.
Exporting and importing
Exporting as ZIP
Every project has a Download ZIP button in the dashboard. Clicking it downloads all your site's HTML files as a single ZIP archive — one file per page for multi-page sites, or a single index.html for single-page sites.
Use this to host your site elsewhere, hand off files to a client, or keep a local backup. Available on all tiers.
Importing an edited file Pro / Agency
Download the ZIP, edit the HTML files in any code editor, then re-import the result directly — no regeneration needed.
- Click Download ZIP to get a clean copy of your current site.
- Edit the HTML files locally in any code editor.
- Zip the files back up (or save a single
.htmlfor single-page sites). - In the dashboard, click Import edited on the project.
- Select your edited file — it uploads immediately.
- A new version is saved and, if the project is published, the live site updates automatically. If the update fails an amber notice appears — click Re-deploy to retry.
Accepted formats: .zip or .html. Maximum file size 20 MB. Every import creates a new entry in version history — use the History button to review or restore previous versions.
ZIP import rules — read before uploading
- index.html must be present. The import will be rejected if it is missing.
- Include all pages. Only the pages present in the ZIP are kept — any page not in the ZIP is removed from the project. Always start from a fresh Download ZIP export to ensure all pages are included before editing.
- Do not rename page files. Existing slugs and titles are matched by filename.
Custom domains
You can point your own domain to a WebBuilder-hosted site. The domain is attached per-project from your dashboard.
- Publish your site first — it needs a
*.webbuilder.digitaladdress before a custom domain can be attached. - In your domain registrar, add an A record pointing your domain to
138.68.190.34. - DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate — wait until the A record is live before the next step.
- In the dashboard, click Add custom domain on the project, enter your domain, and click Activate.
- SSL is provisioned automatically within a few minutes.
The *.webbuilder.digital subdomain remains active as a fallback even after a custom domain is set.
Account and billing
Upgrading
Go to Account and click Upgrade to [tier]. You'll be taken to Stripe checkout. The new tier takes effect as soon as payment completes — no waiting for the billing cycle to turn over.
Managing your subscription
Click Manage billing on the Account page to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can update your payment method, view invoices, or cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Generation counter reset
Monthly generation counters reset on the 1st of each month regardless of your billing date. Pro and Agency tiers have unlimited generations — the counter is shown for reference only.
Deleting your account
Go to Account → Danger zone → Delete my account. This permanently removes all your sites, projects, and personal data. Your Stripe subscription is cancelled immediately. Data is removed within 30 days as per our Privacy Policy.
Agency tier
The Agency tier is designed for designers, marketers, and web agencies delivering client sites at scale. It adds team management, white-label branding, client portals, A/B variants, and dedicated infrastructure on top of everything in Pro.
Organisations
An Organisation is a workspace shared across your team. As the account owner you create the organisation, set its name and logo, and invite team members. Projects can be attached to an organisation so all members with appropriate roles can access them.
To create an organisation: go to Org settings from the dashboard, enter a name and optional logo, and save. You'll get a unique organisation slug used for the client portal URL.
Team roles
Three roles control what team members can do within an organisation:
Admin
Full access — can manage org settings, invite/remove members, generate, deploy, and delete projects.
Editor
Can generate and deploy sites. Cannot manage org settings or member list.
Viewer
Read-only — can view projects and previews. Cannot generate, deploy, or delete.
To invite a team member: go to Org settings → Members → Invite and enter their email address and role. They'll receive a magic link to accept the invitation. Pending invites are shown in the member list until accepted.
White-label branding
Agency accounts can replace WebBuilder's branding with their own within the platform. Go to Org settings → Branding:
- → Organisation name — replaces “WebBuilder” in the dashboard header for all org members.
- → Logo — upload a logo image (PNG or SVG). Stored permanently on Cloudflare R2. Shown in the dashboard header and client portal.
White-label branding applies to the platform UI — not to the generated sites themselves. The WebBuilder watermark is never shown on Agency-tier sites regardless of branding settings.
Client portal
The client portal lets you share a project directly with your client — they can view the site and download the HTML without needing a WebBuilder account.
To share: from the Agency dashboard, click the link icon next to the project. The portal URL is copied to your clipboard and the link is valid for 90 days (rolling — clicking the link icon again refreshes the expiry). Send the URL to your client; they enter their email and receive a magic link scoped to that project.
The portal is branded with your organisation's logo and name. Clients see the live site preview, a “View live site” button, and a “Download HTML” button. They cannot access other projects or the main dashboard.
To revoke access immediately: click the orange X icon next to the link icon. This invalidates the portal URL and removes all existing client sessions. Generate a new link at any time by clicking the link icon again.
A/B variant generation
When generating a site on Agency tier, WebBuilder produces two variants:
- A The primary generation — standard palette and hero.
- B A mood-flipped variant — inverted palette (dark ↔ light) and an alternate hero layout.
Both variants are shown in a side-by-side picker. Select one to save it as the project's active version. The other is held in memory until you dismiss it or navigate away. You can present both to a client via the portal before choosing.
Dedicated hosting infrastructure
Agency accounts get a dedicated DigitalOcean droplet provisioned for their organisation. Your clients' sites run on isolated infrastructure — separate from the shared WebBuilder hosting used by Free, Starter, and Pro tiers.
Droplet provisioning happens automatically when you first publish a site on Agency tier. The status is shown in the dashboard — provisioning takes 2–5 minutes on first use. Subsequent deploys are instant.
The 20 sites included in the Agency plan are hosted on your dedicated droplet. Additional sites beyond 20 are billed at £3/site/month and added to your next invoice.
Automated intake via webhook (Make.com, Zapier, or any HTTP client)
If you take client briefs through an external form, CRM, or automation tool, you can skip re-typing them into WebBuilder by hand. A webhook endpoint accepts a business brief as JSON and hands back a link that opens the generate form with every field already filled in — you just review and click Generate.
Getting your secret (Pro and Agency only): go to Account → Automated intake webhook and click Generate secret. It’s shown once — copy it into your automation immediately. Click Rotate secret at any time to replace it (the old one stops working instantly), or Revoke to switch it off. This secret is unique to your account — it only ever works for your own briefs.
How it works:
- →Your automation sends a POST request to /api/webhooks/generate with your form data and an Authorization: Bearer <your secret> header.
- →WebBuilder stores the brief against your account and returns a prefillUrl.
- →That URL is sent wherever your automation delivers results — email, Slack, a CRM note, etc.
- →Whoever opens the link, while logged in as your WebBuilder account, lands on the generate form with the brief already filled in, reviews it, and clicks Generate as normal.
Payload fields (all optional): businessName, industry, description, tone, address, phone, email, country, brandColour, targetAudience, and an ecommerce object (provider, checkoutUrl, checkoutLabel, snipcartApiKey) for Pro/Agency sites.
The link expires after 48 hours and can only be opened once — after that, the form loads empty (no error) and you generate fresh as usual. Requests are capped at 20 per hour. If you ever suspect your secret has leaked, rotate it immediately — the old one stops working the instant a new one is generated.
